More on spring practice/Kellen Lewis.

The Hoosier Scoop has a nice discussion of the first day of spring practice. The most interesting snippet:
The only new information we learned about the status of Kellen Lewis is that Lewis will miss the entire spring. Coach Bill Lynch said he’s hopeful that Lewis will be back with IU’s team for voluntary workouts this summer.
This isn't a direct quote, so I'm not going to get too involved in reading the tea leaves, but IU's site has a video up, so I may watch it later today and try to post exactly what Lynch said. Still, hopefully Lynch wouldn't be talking about KL's return if he didn't think it were a realistic possibility.

Spring practice begins.

Just in time to salve the wounds of the most painful basketball season in decades, spring football begins. As I said last year, I hate spring football, spring games, the whole thing. It's just a gigantic tease. But if it's your cup of tea, enjoy it. For the first time in eons, IU preview articles will not mention a long bowl drought. Unfortunately, those previews will mention the indefinite suspension of IU's best and most important player, quarterback Kellen Lewis. I recommend following the Hoosier Scoop, which will have reporters on site as often as allowed, I'm sure.

Spring practice concludes.

It's always difficult to draw much insight from these scrimmages, but despite some nasty, February-like weather, both Hoosier offenses seem to have played well in the 27-26 win by...well, whichever team won. I hate spring games. As usual, I would refer you to the Hoosier Scoop for some nice coverage of the Cream and Crimson Game, as well as a post indicating that Coach Hep sent an e-mail to the players. Neither IU nor Hoeppner has released any information about his status or expected return, and Doug Wilson notes that while many expected him to make an appearance yesterday, he apparently did not do so.
While Hep's health problems are a cloud over this program, much returning talent and a favorable schedule hopefully will make this season a memorable one for a program that hasn't been to the postseason since 1993. Four and a half months, a long summer ahead of us, and then the glorious beginning of college football.

Football scrimmage.

The football team held a public scrimmage yesterday. As always, Doug Wilson of the Bloomington Herald Times has a nice firsthand account.

Spring practice, day 2.

The IU website does not contain a release this morning, and yesterday's practice was closed to the public. Information on the football Hoosiers may be sparse this spring, but here's a nice summary of day 1 from the Doug Wilson of the Hoosier Scoop, the Bloomington Herald-Times's blog.

Spring football, day 1.

Assistant head coach Bill Lynch, who essentially is the acting head coach for the spring, as he was for last season's SIU and Connecticut games, held a press conference before today's practice. Lynch discussed, vaguely, the team's reaction to the latest news about Hep. The most interesting tidbit: Blake Powers, who started two games for IU last season and every game in 2005 (and set a school single-season record with 22 touchdown passes) is now a tight end, as had been long rumored.

How could I forget?

As the Hoosier Scoop blog of the Bloomington Herald Times reminded me, lost in all of the talk about Coach Hoeppner is that spring practice begins tomorrow. According to the linked blog entry, media access to practice will be limited this season, so it does appear that the official IU site will be the go-to place for information on spring ball.
